Tipically this is used to measure and calibrate your CNC or whatever... so you put it in several mounting places.... for instance to see if Y travel head is parallel to a plate on the machine table and then move along Y axis and read the several measurings...

Vasco Rocha ahahah...do you know what is this for? This connect to your eyes :) It is a graphical display, you look at it and read the measurings. Usually you use this to measure the deviation... imagine a brake disc from your car... when you sindle it you may feel some roughness on the surface or some warpage. If you need to measure how it is... you put this instrument fixed on a sturdy place, an make the point of this (like a ball) touch the disc. Then zero this instrument after fixing it. Then rotate your disc and you will see how much deviation or warpage you have....
