We live a few miles from a nuclear power plant. The company that owns it sends us a booklet each year detailing what to do in case of an emergency. To their credit, in the 20 years we've been here, said emergency has never happened. Still, I thought it might be prudent to have a radiation counter/dosimeter on hand. I ordered this after reading reviews and I can report it seems to work well. I charged it and turned it on and it immediately began recording background radiation at our home (see images for the two screen views it offers). I plan on taking it near the nuke plant just to see if the background changes. The unit comes with a clear plastic shield for the screen. there is a small green tab to assist in removing it, but I left it on for added protection. The instruction manual is well-written and mostly tells you everything you need to know to set the date, time, alarms, etc. I did have to intuit how to change the units once I got to the right location. but it wasn't that hard. (Hint: tap the OK button). My order arrived faster than I expected and was well-packaged and the device seems solidly made. All in all, I'm very satisfied.
