This is a small thrower flashlight, which means it has a narrower beam, and a small hotspot (very bright area in front of the light). It is mostly for shining on distant objects (op to 1-2 hundred meters) and not for close up work. I think it is important to state this. It is quite good for this price as a thrower though. The user interface in the advanced modes takes some getting used to, but for someone who doesn't wish to learn it, you can look up how to turn it into an easy to use mode (named "muggle mode"). In my opinion it is a worthwhile investment to learn the interface. Be aware that the lighted tailcap, which is a handy feature by the way, can drain your batteries to dangerous levels if you leave it in the light for months. Also, the tailcap is only illuminated from one side, which I initially thought was a manufacturing defect, but it is the factory state of the light. Otherwise I can recommend this light highly. The quality is better than the previous BLF/Astrolux light, the BLF A6/Astrolux S1. Be sure to check out the smaller brother of the light, the Astrolux S3. It takes different batteries, but has similar specs as this one. If you don't care about the slightly bigger size, I still recommend this one.
As always I am very pleased with the Astrolux line of flash lights from Banggood. (I wish I had never lost my S1.) If I could afford it I would test out all these Astrolux lights and do reviews. I camp a lot and use lights like this often. This is Astrolux is the S2 and it is larger as you can tell. It is more of a throw light rather than flood. It has at least twice the throw of the Astrolux S1 (the S1 is very floody). The S2 also has the light up clicky which is very unique. This is the 18650 version and it fits my protected cell just fine. The main problem with this light has been the firmware. I had a terrible time getting memory mode to stick even though I was doing it properly. It eventually took but still seems to fall out of memory mode. The button is also stiff and harder to go back and forth through the modes without clicking it off. Going in reverse from bright to dim was much easier with my S1. Pros: Thread are smooth and even came well greased. (I did add my own though) The finish is nearly perfect without any imperfections or scratches and feels great in the hand. The Light has very good throw and is extremely bright. The light up clicky is handy. Cons: Unreliable firmware. Doesn't seem to hold memory well. Stiff clicky makes it easy to accidentally turn off when trying to switch modes using a soft click. I wish the clip was black rather than silver. I would recommend this light however but be warned the firmware might give you trouble. I dont know if I got a bad light or it is this difficult and unreliable. This light will make a great home emergency and security light. The light up clicky makes it easy to see and its brightness gives me the ability to check out my whole property and even potentially blind an intruder.
