These are really bright. The color of the cool white version is slightly blue-purple. I am a big fan of cool white but as others have said in this case the warm white would probably be a better choice (although I have not really tried the warm white - some suffer from a greenish tint). The backing tape sticks well on smooth non-porous surfaces (e.g laminates, metal, glass but not bare wood) and it can hold its own weight but not more. Make sure you support the ends, especially the one that connects to the supply wires and it will not fall off. Otherwise the weight of the cable can bring the entire strip down (I just used two ties to support the wire and connector).
